Key West Island
Key west is an island in the Straits of Florida on the North American continent at the southern most tip of the Florida keys. The island is about four miles (6.4 km) long and two miles (3.2 km) wide. In the late 1950s, many of the large salt ponds on the eastern side were filled in, nearly doubling the original land mass of the island. And today, this island is about 3.370 acres (13.6 km²). If we were back to the past time, the Key west was inhabited by the Calusa people. The first people who visit this island was Juan Ponce de Leon, an European, in 1521. In other side, Florida became a Spanish colony, so thus a fishing and salvage village with a small garrison was established in here.Beside it, the Key West is also a seaport destination for many passenger cruise ship. The Key West International Airport provides airline service. There are also hotels and guest houses for lodging, Naval Air Station Key West for naval aviation due to the superb weather condition. The first cruise ship that leans on the Key West was the Sunward in1969, which docked at the Navy’s pier in the Truman Annex, while the Navy’s pier is called the Navy mole. Based on Cruise Ship Statistics for 1994, can be seen that number of visits is 368 times, the passanger count is 398,370, and the City revenues from docking charges is $852,887.
And now, the key west has developed very fast. In this island, we can stay, we can spend our holiday or honeymoon in there. There is a resort also in there. The most favourite place in this island is Suite dreams. The Suite Dreams Key West is very super, super big. In the front of foyer, visiters are greeted by a nice set of chairs and a little sitting area. This opens up into the living room around a corner with a couch for the guests. The kitchen is quite big and equipped for large meals. And the dining room table is able to seat approximately six until nine persons.
