Experience Lanzarote in 2010
Lanzarote is part of the far flung Canary Islands. Which are Spanish owned and part of the European Union – but located many miles south of the mainland off the coast of Africa.
As this location suggests the seven Canaries all enjoy great weather even during winter. With temperatures warm enough for sunbathing on the beach all year round and very little in the way of rainfall. Little wonder then that the island has become such a popular holiday destination. With tourists from the UK, Eire and Germany – as well as Spain – flocking there in their droves.
Lanzarote is one of the most popular of these seven islands as a holiday destination – thanks to the fact that it offers much more than just sunshine alone. With a vibrant cultural heritage, abundance of natural wonders and wide range of excellent beaches all acting as magnets for visitors.
Like the rest of the Canaries Lanzarote is located four hours flying time from the UK. Which is the islands largest market. And flights to Lanzarote cost upwards of £100 – with returns available from a broad selection of carriers, including Thomas Cook, Monarch, easyJet and Ryanair.
Visitors should be aware that on arrival there is no public bus service or shuttle to ferry them to their resort. Tourists need to either queue for a taxi (which can at times be quite a lengthy wait) or arrange to pick up a rental vehicle at the airport. There are plenty of Lanzarote car hire offices in the main arrivals hall – as well as in the three main resorts of Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen.
Holidays in Lanzarote are also available with all of the main travel brands and tour operators. Such as Thomson and First Choice. Who offer a selection of deals covering everything from flight only options through to all inclusive packages. Around 20% of all tourists opt for an all inclusive deal with a further 30% preferring hotel to private rental accommodation.
During the winter months temperatures on the island reach the mid-20´s – getting progressively hotter until summer. When the mercury can climb as high as 35 degrees. However the islands are slap bang in the path of the Trade Winds which provide a much needed cooling breeze. And are usually a lot cooler than say the Spanish mainland during the height of summer. So much so in fact that many residents from the mainland head here in August to escape the heat.
